On 7 January 2019, the Welsh Government implemented Schedule 3 of the Flood and Water Management Act (2010). The new mandatory regulations make the incorporation of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) compulsory in new developments in order to help reduce flood risk and improve water quality. The Minister’s Standards support the ‘four pillars’ of SuDS with Standards covering flood risk, water quality, amenity and biodiversity and is aligned with the CIRIA SuDS Manual (susdrain.org).
Sustainable urban Drainage Schemes (SuDS) are now mandatory for drainage schemes. We routinely produce such drawings and model data.
A detention basin for the purpose of reducing sewer overflow events, habitat creation and provide the community benches and paths.
We developed a detailed 3D model for the purpose of calculating earthworks quantities, understand construction phasing. In particular, the design and construction of the gabion retaining wall was modelled in 3D to understand it’s construction. Again, the whole model was dynamic! So examination of embankment slopes was simply an iterative process within the 3D model. All plans, sections and setting out drawings being derived from the 3D model
That drainage schedule is dynamic. Schedules are generated directly from the 3D drainage model. When the model changes the schedules update…within reason.
The plan information shown here is indeed intelligent 3D object data. The shaded areas are generated using certain features of the Civil 3D software. The table is dynamically linked to the shaded areas. Thus allowing object property data to be reflected in the tables. When the shaded areas change, so does the table.
We develope our plans directly from 3D models. The annotation you see on plan is dynamically extracted from the 3D model, database. When (not if) the model changes so does the annotation. Want to change the drawing scale? No problem. It’s dynamic! we just have to move things around a little to retain legibility.
SuDS schedules are dynamic. schedules are generated directly from the 3D model. We also use Microsoft Excel for all other tables presented in our drawings and reports
Attenuation tank systems are modelled in 3D. Depending on the chosen manufacturer, we are able to build either simple cube structures to quite detailed models. Even if the model is a simple bounding box, the benefits for clash detection against all other below ground utilities is significant.
A sample of the details and sections we produce for this discipline
We produce a combination of 2D and 3D details. Generally, attenuation setout details utilise a 3D model. The setout tables pull data from the 3D model
These are almost always generated from the 3D model. Thus they are intelligent and dynamic
Exceedences routes are simple yet essential drawings in any drainage design.
Above ground conveyance, flood pathways and flood routing is essential in allowing runoff from extreme rainfall events to drain from developed areas effectively. Recognising the importance of flood pathways along highways and other routes, and the storage of water in low spots, is the first step to better urban flood management. (susdrain.org)
